1974 Fender Stratocaster Hard Tail
Nearly flawless, collector quality
$5,995

Mint '74 Fender Stratocaster, tri-tone sunburst, appears ungigged, dated to 1974, serial no. 570025. Made in the Fullerton, California factory. This is a seriously clean guitar that will appeal to collectors. It is a hard tail, meaning no vibrato bar. Rather, the strings anchor through the rear of the body like a Telecaster, creating more sparkle and sustain.
I purchased the guitar from a custom guitar builder who acquired it from noted music producer Jimmy Iovine (Interscope Records, American Idol, Geffen/Universal, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, etc). Jimmy received the guitar as payment from a client for studio time at his Santa Barbara studio. The original owner, who rarely played the guitar, reportedly kept this pristine Strat stored for 35 years. I acquired from Jimmy's colleague, a guitar builder for Joe Perry and Slash.
It is in nearly flawless condition except for a slight "impression" on the front of the headstock, visible in the close-up. There is not even a hint of a belt buckle scratch on the back...astonishing! I love the green lettering on the volume and tone pits. To my knowledge the guitar is all original except for the 3-position pickup selector that was changed out to a 5-position, giving it full Strat tone selection; also of the tone pots was replaced at an unknown time, reportely during the 1970's. We did a simple, reversible wiring mod that makes the existing second tone pot also active on the bridge pickup. This immaculate Strat comes with hardshell black tolex case.
